Biography

 

ALEXANDER VAULIN, born in Moscow, began playing piano at the age of six and graduated from the Gnesins Music School for talented children twelve years later with a gold medal. He continued his education at the world-famous Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he studied with Prof. Nina Lelchuk, a disciple of Yakov Flier, the brilliant Soviet pianist. Mr. Vaulin earned his doctorate there with highest honors.

    Since then he kept a very busy schedule performing solo recitals and chamber music throughout Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltic countries. His performances were always highly praised by the critics and warmly received by the audiences. He also worked as a piano teacher and vocal coach and as an editor of piano repertoire at the world’s largest music publishing house, Muzyka in Moscow.

    In 1987 Mr. Vaulin moved to the West – first to Austria. There he continued giving concerts as a soloist and with singers. He established a creative contact with Prof. Paul Badura-Skoda, taking part in his master classes and studying with him privately. Since 1989 he has been living in Copenhagen, Denmark, from where he continues his performing career as a soloist and recording artist. Leading Danish musicians often invite him to perform together. Mr. Vaulin has also given concerts in Austria, the Faeroe Islands, Finland, France, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Sweden, South Africa, U.S.A. and the “new” Russia and Ukraine. A reviewer from Iceland’s newspaper “Morgunblaðið” wrote: “The influence of Richter was clear, in any case; I have attended a large number of concerts at the Nordic House and have never heard the instrument there sound so good. Each tone was soft as silk, wide and colorful…” Mr. Vaulin has recorded 10 highly acclaimed solo CDs with EMI and Classico. Denmark’s National Radio and other Danish and international broadcasting companies regularly air Mr. Vaulin’s recitals and recordings.

    Alexander Vaulin has also earned a prominent name as an excellent and devoted piano teacher and vocal coach. He has been working at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, various music and opera schools throughout Denmark and has given master classes in Denmark, Czechia, Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, Ukraine and South Africa. His pupils successfully took part in Danish national and international competitions and festivals. Since 2007 Mr. Vaulin has taken active part in realization of two significant international projects in the field of young musicians’ education. One of them is the festival Moscow Meets Friends annually organized in Moscow by Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation. The other is based in Kiev International Association Art and Education in the 21st Century which carries out competitions, seminars, master classes and other activities in Ukraine as well as in other countries throughout Europe.

    Alexander Vaulin has also worked as external editor of piano music for the publishers Samfundet and Sheet Music Now A/S. His editorial works are displayed at www.FreeHandMusic.com.

    Currently, Mr. Vaulin is presenting a series of concerts commemorating the 100th anniversary of Edvard Grieg’s death.
